SQL Server DBA Services

Proactive, SLA-backed database administration for SQL Server 2016 through SQL Server 2025 - on-premises, in virtual machines, and on Azure SQL and Amazon RDS.

Overview

AVRIN provides comprehensive managed SQL Server DBA services for on-premises, cloud and hybrid environments. Our DBAs keep your databases highly available, fast, secure and compliant, so your developers and business users can rely on them without thinking about them.

We work with Developer, Standard and Enterprise editions and help you use the capabilities you already license - from basic availability groups in Standard edition to readable secondaries, online index operations and data compression in Enterprise edition. Where licensing is a concern, we review core counts, virtualization and edition choices to control cost without adding risk.

Engagements range from a one-time health check to fully managed 24x7 operations. Each includes documented runbooks, clear escalation paths and regular reporting on capacity, performance and risk.

Our SQL Server DBA capabilities

  • 24x7 monitoring and alerting
  • Backup, restore and disaster recovery management
  • Performance tuning and query optimization
  • Index and statistics maintenance
  • Capacity planning and growth forecasting
  • Security hardening and compliance audits
  • Patching, cumulative updates and version upgrades

SQL Server versions and support lifecycle

Running an unsupported version means no security fixes. We help you plan upgrades well before support ends and take advantage of the features each release adds.

Performance tuning that is measured, not guessed

Slow applications are usually caused by a small number of expensive queries, missing or unused indexes, blocking, or configuration problems. We find them with evidence and fix them in order of business impact.

Query Store & plan analysis

We use Query Store to track query performance over time, identify plan regressions after deployments or upgrades, and force or hint stable plans where appropriate.

Waits, indexes & blocking

Wait statistics, Extended Events and DMVs show where time is spent. We tune indexes and statistics, remove blocking and deadlock patterns, and tune tempdb.

Configuration & capacity

Memory, MAXDOP, cost threshold, storage layout and virtualization settings are checked against best practice and your workload, with capacity forecasts for growth.

Proactive DBA maintenance model

Routine work is scheduled, automated where possible and reported, so small issues never become outages.

Daily activities

  • Health, availability and performance monitoring
  • Job failure review and resolution
  • Backup validation and monitoring
  • Blocking and deadlock analysis

Weekly & monthly activities

  • Index maintenance and statistics updates
  • Database growth and capacity review
  • Security access and permission review
  • DBCC CHECKDB integrity checks and test restores

Quarterly & yearly activities

  • Disaster recovery readiness assessments
  • Always On failover testing
  • Architecture and scalability reviews
  • Upgrade and roadmap planning

High availability & disaster recovery

We design and manage Always On availability groups, failover cluster instances and log shipping to remove single points of failure, with defined RTO and RPO objectives, automatic or manual failover, read-only replicas for reporting and regular failover testing.

HA & DR services

Security & compliance

A multi-layered security strategy: Transparent Data Encryption (TDE), encrypted backups, TLS-encrypted connections, Always Encrypted or column-level encryption for PII, SQL Server Audit and least-privilege access - supporting HIPAA, PCI DSS, SOX and GDPR readiness.

Database security

Upgrades & migration

In-place and side-by-side upgrades, consolidation, and migrations to Azure SQL, SQL Server on Azure VMs or Amazon RDS for SQL Server. We test compatibility levels and use Query Store to catch plan regressions before and after cutover.

Migration services

Service level agreement

Managed services are backed by an SLA with availability targets of up to 99.99% for eligible architectures, proactive monitoring, documented runbooks and defined response times for incidents.
